The Bissell ProHeat 2X Select 9400M is a full-sized upright carpet cleaner with a built-in water heater, 12 amp motor and rotating brushes. In general, this model receives positive reviews from owners, though we did read a number of complaints about leaks and early breakdowns. According to some, the Bissell also doesn't have enough suction and leaves the carpet wet. That said, the majority of the reviews we found say this carpet cleaner does a good job both for general cleaning and for stain removal. However, the similar but much less expensive Hoover SteamVac with Clean Surge F5914-900 (*Est. $150) receives more reviews from owners and higher average ratings than the Bissell.
As is the case with all carpet cleaners, we found more reliable information from owners posting comments to retailer websites than we did from expert reviews. Amazon.com, Target.com and Lowes.com all have owner ratings for the Bissell. ConsumerGuide.com has an expert review for this model, but while it appears to have been tested, it is not compared to other carpet cleaners.
