Bissell QuickSteamer 1770

Pros
  • Very lightweight
  • Easy to use
  • Inexpensive
Cons
  • No attachments
  • Can't handle heavy cleaning

The Bissell QuickSteamer 1770 is a lightweight carpet cleaner -- in every sense of the word. It weighs in at only 12 pounds, lighter than any other machine covered in our report, and it is less expensive than most other carpet cleaners as well. However, reviewers say it's also a lightweight in terms of performance. With its 3-amp motor, it can't handle tough stains or heavily soiled carpet, and it doesn't have features such as a heater, motorized brushes or attachments of any kind. Although its performance in professional tests is only fair, users say it's a good choice for light-duty cleaning and a good value, considering its low price. However, the Bissell QuickSteamer PowerBrush 2080 (Discontinued) is only slightly more expensive and gets better reviews overall. For stubborn stains or deep cleaning, look for a more powerful carpet cleaner, such as the Hoover SteamVac with Clean Surge F5914-900 (*Est. $145).

The Bissell QuickSteamer 1770 is the lowest-priced model included in the latest test of carpet cleaners at ConsumerReports.org. It also has more than 100 user reviews at Amazon.com and Epinions.com.
