Bissell SpotBot

Best spot cleaner

Pros
  • Great at removing tough, small stains
  • Very easy to use
  • Small and compact
  • Hand attachments
Cons
  • "Crop circles" show surrounding carpet dirt
  • Leaves carpet wet
  • Expensive for a spot cleaner

Though rather expensive for a spot cleaner, the Bissell SpotBot is the top performer in reviews for two main reasons: It does the best job of removing tough stains and it's the easiest to use. Users love that they can park the SpotBot on a stain and leave its agitating brushes to do the work by themselves. The SpotBot also has manual hand attachments that can be used on stairs, upholstery and car interiors. The SpotBot's biggest drawback, ironically, serves as testimony to its effectiveness: areas that have been "botted" appear cleaner than surrounding carpet, leaving a "crop circle" of contrast. We also found scattered complaints about wet carpets, although some users say the manual wand will take up the excess water. The Bissell Little Green 14007 spot cleaner (*Est. $70) also gets good reviews and is less expensive than the SpotBot, but it doesn't include the automatic cleaning feature.

The Bissell SpotBot isn't included in the ratings of carpet cleaners at ConsumerReports.org, but the editors do offer a brief summary of its performance in the introduction to their report. The best reviews of this cleaner came from retail websites and other user review sites. Amazon.com is the best source of information with the most reviews, followed by Target.com and Epinions.com. We found fewer reviews at Sears.com and Lowes.com.
