Hoover Power Scrub FH50150 Review
Bottom Line

The Hoover Power Scrub FH50150's rotating brushes and powerful suction do an excellent job of lifting dirt and stains from the carpet, say reviewers, even on light-colored carpets and with dark, set-in stains. It also leaves carpets relatively dry thanks to its forced air drying system. However, we did find a few complaints about leakage and some scattered durability complaints.

ProsLeaves little residue, Fast drying time, Many included accessories, Rotating brushes for scrubbingConsShort power cord, Some leakage issues

Features

Loaded with accessories. The Hoover Power Scrub features a two-tank system; one tank holds cleaning solution and the other fresh water for rinsing. The tanks have a total one-gallon capacity. The package includes a bottle of Clean Plus 2X Carpet & Upholstery Cleaner (Est. $10 for 32 oz.) [B005NICGBA] that, by itself, gets excellent reviews for performance. The Power Scrub also comes with a stair cleaning tool, upholstery tool, crevice tool and powered hand brush. A mesh storage bag holds all of the included accessories. The Hoover Power Scrub has an 11.25 inch cleaning path, wider than some commercial-grade machines.

Performance

Goes after ground in dirt. Reviewers give the Hoover Power Scrub FH50150 plenty of raves for its terrific performance on all types of carpet, and many say that it has transformed their dirty carpets, making them look nearly new again. The spinning brushes pull out even ground in dirt, and we saw a number of comments from pet owners who purchased this carpet cleaner to deal with old pet stains and were thrilled with the results. The Power Scrub's suction is powerful enough to remove most excess moisture so that the carpet dries more quickly, and the forced heated air speeds the drying process even further, reviewers say. The included accessories get mixed reviews for their effectiveness in cleaning stairs and upholstery; some say they work well, others are less enthused, saying they don't nearly match up to regular carpet performance.

Ease of use

Simple to assemble; use. The Hoover Power Scrub FH50150 is easier to use than many comparable carpet cleaners, say reviewers. Removing the two tanks requires just a flip of a lever and they fill from the top. The detergent is mixed and diluted automatically when you push the trigger in cleaning mode, and the switch between cleaning and rinsing is as simple as turning a dial. When the dirty water tank is full the machine turns off automatically. The brushes and nozzle snap off for cleaning and the included hose -- for using the accessories -- is simple to attach and detach. There is some assembly required, but just a few steps. Although the Hoover Power Scrub is considered lightweight at 18.1 pounds, quite a few users note that the fully-filled tanks add about 8 extra pounds. However, there are grab handles in several places on the unit that make lifting and carrying somewhat easier. Many say the 20-foot power cord is too short.

Durability

Few complaints. The Hoover Power Scrub FH50150 was our Best Reviewed carpet cleaners in the previous version of this report. At that time, only real quibbles we saw with it were scattered durability issues -- although not enough for there to be a unifying theme. For this update, we saw a few more complaints of leakage from various places on the carpet cleaner; however, not enough to keep it out of the top stop, especially since we also saw highly responsive replies from Hoover customer service, which gets excellent reviews. The Power Scrub comes with a two-year warranty.
