The Rug Doctor Mighty Pro X3 is a home version of the commercial-strength carpet cleaners widely available for rent. When its capacious reservoirs are full, it can be heavy and challenging to move around; it also goes through a lot of water and is quite loud. Still, its great cleaning performance more than makes up for those relatively minor downsides.
Cleans up the competition. Users and experts agree that the Rug Doctor Mighty Pro X3 does a great job of cleaning. "Picked up a significant amount of dirt in Institute tests and should work well on high-traffic areas," write the editors of Good Housekeeping, who are also impressed by how much water the Mighty Pro sucks back out of the carpet. "Stains that have been here over a year are gone. WOW..." posts an Amazon.com customer. Both experts and owners pan the Mighty Pro for being noisy, though, and several users complain about having to refill the clean-water reservoir frequently even though it holds about 2 gallons.
A hefty cleaning machine. There's no denying that the Rug Doctor Mighty Pro X3 is a challenge to maneuver around. It sprays out detergent on the forward stroke and sucks it out on the backward stroke, more or less forcing you to work in straight lines. "You are essentially 'mowing the grass' and cleaning in strips," explains one Amazon.com user. As hefty and noisy as the entire machine is, the editors at Good Housekeeping still praise it for its easy use. Most owners agree, although getting the large reservoirs back and forth from the sink when full can be a challenge. The clean-water reservoir holds about 2 gallons; the recovery reservoir is about twice as big to accommodate foaming.
Comes ready to clean. The Rug Doctor Mighty Pro X3 comes with an upholstery kit that includes an extension hose and universal hand tool for cleaning furniture, stairs and other tight spaces like the interior of a car. You'll also receive an extra quick-release brush and dome filter, plus an impressive collection of cleaning solutions and stain- and smell-eliminating wipes to try out. The Mighty Pro is covered by a five-year warranty, with free customer support for life and a 30-day money-back guarantee. Owners don't have much to say about Rug Doctor's customer service, but the limited feedback we found is positive.
