Feline's Pride Gourmet Chicken Dinner gets the best reviews among frozen raw-meat cat foods. Experts, who say raw meat is best for cats, say frozen food is a far better option than canned or dried because it simulates what cats would eat in the wild and lacks grain fillers, chemical preservatives and antibiotics. The only things added to the meat and bones in Feline's Pride are needed nutrients such as taurine. Feline's Pride was subject to a voluntary recall for salmonella contamination in July 2010, though the company states the issue was with the FDA's handling of the food rather than a problem with the food itself.

Feline's Pride is pricey. When bought in bulk, you can calculate the cost (including shipping) equivalent to canned cat food as about $2.40 for 6 ounces. If that's too expensive, or if Feline's Pride requires too much space in your freezer, experts say the next-best choice is a grain-free canned cat food such as Wellness Chicken Formula (*Est. $1.50 for a 5.5-oz. can).

We found the best review of Feline's Pride at CatInfo.com. Veterinarian Lisa Pierson is a staunch advocate of raw meats for cats, but she says Feline's Pride Gourmet Chicken Dinner would be her choice if she didn't make food for her cats herself. It's also recommended as the best commercial choice at CatNutrition.org. We found a few discussions of Feline's Pride at ItchmoForums.com.
