Expensive, but my cat is thriving on it, July 4, 2009I decided to switch my cat's food because she was having all kinds of problems: excessive throwing up, urinary tract issues, and significant weight loss that the vet couldn't explain. I switched her from… Kirkland dry and Friskies Turkey Pate canned to Wellness dry and Wellness chicken formula, and it's been almost an overnight miracle. She's put on at least a pound in 3 weeks (she eats an entire 5.5 oz can plus dry food every day--no more pushing the food around and not really eating), no more straining on the litter box, and she hasn't barfed in over a week! I'm really impressed at what a difference this food has made for my cat's health.

About.com guide to cats, Franny Syufy, calls Wellness Chicken Formula an enigma. She says that owners will appreciate the high-quality ingredients, and some cats like the food. However, other cats reject it at every turn. Because of the cost, she recommends trying a few cans with your cats before placing a large order. Susan Peters tends to be hypercritical when it comes to cat foods, and few cat foods score very well here. Wellness Chicken Formula is an exception, scoring nine out of 10, with only a point deducted for using natural chicken flavor -- an ingredient that the author does not trust because it is poorly defined. Still, she compliments the company for making "healthy pet foods."

In a Jan. 2009 update, the anonymous author writes that they have switched their cats to Wellness canned and dry foods with good results. While all of the company's canned varieties are being used, the beef flavors "aren't popular."
