March 2009. Not as common as some other brands of cat litter, Dr. Elsey's Precious Cat Attract Cat Litter is meant for young kittens that are just learning how to use a litter box, or for older "problem" cats that urinate frequently outside the box. Experts say it does the job it is intended to, attracting cats with its herbal scent. Reviewers also like the fact that its larger grains of clay can't be ingested by kittens -- which is why kittens younger than 3 months should not use fine-grained clay litters like Scoop Away (*est. $18 for 28 lbs.).

Two websites publish the most thorough reviews of Dr. Elsey's Precious Cat Attract Cat Litter: Suite101.com, whose author runs a "cattery" of 14 cats, and The Litter Box column at CatInfo.org, whose veterinarian and blogger compares Dr. Elsey's and World's Best Cat Litter in depth. We supplemented these reviews with owner posts about Dr. Elsey's at the retail site PetSmart.com and at Amazon.com.

2. CatInfo.org

At the very end of an update to her veterinary blog, Lisa Pierson recommends Dr. Elsey's Precious Cat Attract for cats that don't always use their litter box. Earlier in the update, Pierson compares two cat litters in depth: the biodegradable World's Best Cat Litter and the clumping-clay Dr. Elsey's Precious Cat Ultra.

3. PetSmart.com

PetSmart doesn't sell a huge variety of cat litter brands, but it covers the major brands and allows customers to post reviews. Dr. Elsey's Precious Cat Attract does especially well here, with high ratings from nearly 50 posters. A few owners say it is too expensive, however.

4. Amazon.com

Most cat owners posting reviews at Amazon.com give Dr. Elsey's Precious Cat Attract perfect scores. Of the remaining reviews, two consumers complain that it's dusty, and one says it didn't entice her cat to use the litter box.
