I Expected More..., November 17, 2009

I really, really, really wanted to like this litter. I was overjoyed at the idea of using litter that that is eco-friendly and not as dusty as clay. So I shelled out the bucks for the litter. First, the good: This litter clumps very well, and doesn't fall apart. It's flushable. Now, the bad: This litter has a displeasing smell even before it has been used. This litter seems to have absolutely no odor control when it comes to feces. I could be up on the second floor and tell when one of my two cats used the box in the basement. I was scooping up to five times a day, but my house still smelled like a litter box. This litter stuck to my cats paws much more than clay litter, and ended up tracked all through the house. Overall, I was disappointed that the litter didn't live up to my expectations.

No better than any other litter, November 12, 2009

We got this litter based on other reviews only to find that it doesn't last as long as stated by others and it smells just as bad if not more than other litters. We got the extra strength for 1 cat and it doesn't do anything more than the other leading litters. I don't mind the smell of animals, but when I cleaned the litter it made my house smell like a barn full of cows. I was not satisfied with the product overall and wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

15 cats and counting, November 4, 2009

How much for a bag of litter?!!! That was my first comment when I was told about WBCL. When I read a review stating it's the most and least expensive litter product there is. Huh? Then I read more, and with the addition of 5 more cats inside, made the choice to at least try it. Wow, I'm glad I did. Not only does it have a unique smell (think bags of cattle feed...almost a sweet grain smell). It doesn't overpower the waste products with some sickly 99yr old womans perfume, but it doesn't smell like basic unscented clay does after a day. With 15 cats in the house now, odor control is a major priority. There is very little smell escaping from the boxes and what does doesn't last for long. Dust is very low. We've been using supermegawarehouse litter, the stuff you get in 40lb buckets. This stuff could give a desert dust storm a run for it's money. The WBCL pales in comparison. If you rated the normal litter a 10 for it's dust cloud producing capabilities, you would be hard pressed to give WBCL a 1. What little dust it produces is only on the initial pour into the box. I can live with that. And it clumps like granite. The little golfball sized clumps are easily removed, with the tootsie rolls just as easily disposed of. Some of the pudding we get left with, if a cat is sick or ate something it shouldn't have, manages to dry out a bit due to the litter being readily absorbent. I can't complain about that either. It even lives up to it's "most and least expensive" description. Not the cheapest mix on the market, but it really does take a long time to get to the bottom of the bag. In the 3 of the 6 litter boxes I tried it out in, it's still within an inch of the original level after 2 weeks. I'd have had to add more of the regular litter by now. I'm guesstimating that I'll use a bit less than 1/2 as much WBCL. Given the other plusses, it's worth the money. Especially when you consider the stuff is lighter, and 34lbs is a larger volume than 34lbs of our normal stuff. We use the concrete mixing trays available at home improvement stores for litter boxes, and one bag will take care of almost 3 of them. There's a lot in a bag. I've given the cats the option of the 2 types, with 1 box being half and half. Once they start using it, I'll pour another with 100%. So far, we haven't found any mouse heads in our bed, so I'm guessing they're not displeased with the change so far. (at first, they also liked the taste, so I'm not sure they really understand the whole litter concept to start with)

Tried them all...finally found Solid Success!!, November 4, 2009

I have three VERY picky large male felines. They use their litter boxes quite frequently as they have very healthy appetites. I have tried every litter they have made and for a while was happy with Arm & Hammer, multi-cat formula. However, one of my cats has a very sensitive immune system and allergies, and was reacting to the scented litters and chemicals. Turning to natural forms, I tried the pine litter, I tried the newspaper-pellet litters...The pine is extremely "fragrant", to say the least. That was not all too important to me but it was definitely displeasing to the cats. The newspaper-type was not accepted very well either and did not capture odor the same way as the previous litters. One of my litter boxes was self-cleaning and I came across the World's Best Extra Strength. I realized that all of the boys preferred that litter to all the others; everything was buried, no "incidents" left outside the box, no skin irritations, no dust,...the list goes on. So, now I use the corn-based W.B. Litter in all of the boxes and the boys' behavior is fantastic regarding their litter area. Whereas I would try a new litter and do well for a few weeks before "issues" would begin, I have been using this litter exclusively for eight months and not a problem in the slightest. The odor that some say is distasteful...ok, it does not smell like flowers, but it is not so overpowering as to disturb my nose, and the cats seem to be pleased. FANTASTIC LITTER, you should never need to use anything else.

It IS the best!, October 29, 2009

I have been using World's Best Cat Litter, Extra Strength for years. The main reason is cat health. When cats are autopsied, they often find silica (clay) caking the lining of the lungs (as reported in a now-defunct natural cat newsletter, which I miss). That can't be good! There are also ecological issues this stuff helps avoid. The only time I've had issues with smell is when I've neglected scooping every day. Tsk tsk. To me, it is the best litter: my cats like it, I find it immeasurably convenient that it's flushable, it's a lot lighter than clay (in lugging and scooping), it clumps just fine, and it seems neater than Swheat Scoop. The only negative is that it ain't cheap, but my kitties are worth it!
