great player!, November 16, 2009

incredible, I had read a review on this cd player in stereofile magazine and decided to investigate further, every reviewer without fail was extremely happy with this product as was I, after an initial burn in period of 24 hours the sound became warm, detailed and quite enjoyable to listen to. I recommend this player without reservation to anyone looking for a great sounding cd player at less than audiophile prices, the Onkyo 7555 audiophile is an absolute gem.

I like it., November 3, 2009
I've only had this CD player for a month, but as I hear things, it delivers an unbias sound reproduction that is crisp and clean. Haven't had the chance to explore the various settings yet. But so far, I'm pleased.
Perfection, July 17, 2009

I purchased the Onkyo DX-7555 single disk "Audiophile" CD player through Amazon for my home theater setup. It is very well matched to an Onkyo TX-SR700 Home Theater Receiver I have had since 2003. I was able to connect these two components together using Onkyo's "Remote Interactive" cable, so when you turn on the CD player it automatically turns on the Home Theater Receiver, changes the input to CD and sets it up the way you want, which for me are just two front channels of "pure audio". At that setting, there is no signal processing, no tone controls, and even the display on the receiver shuts down, so all it regulates is the volume, which allows the purely unadulterated and incredible sound of the DX7555 CD player to shine through. The sound is crystal clear, with depth and a 3D quality as well as incredible sonic imaging, so you can place every instrument and singer in the sound field exactly where they are. The CD player is absolutely accurate in sound reproduction while at the same time being very musical. It is a solid, handsome black unit with few knobs and it is very heavy due to a large power supply. It incorporates a high quality DA converter which I gather is why it sounds so great. I am using an Acoustic Research APO31 analog stereo cable to connect the DX-7555 to the receiver. Altogether a wonderful sounding combination, playing through two Boston Acoustics tower speakers. If you love superb sound reproduction and have a bit of nostalgia for a time when stereo equipment was heavy, solid, and beautifully constructed, then you will love the Onkyo DX-7555 CD Player.

I cannot complain at all. Excellant Sound in fact, sounds almost as good as another receiver I have that cost close to 5k.

1. Stereophile

This is easily the most comprehensive review of the Onkyo DX-7555 CD player. Robert Deutsch conducts extensive hands-on testing, comparing the CD player with two more expensive alternatives and coming away fairly impressed. Deutsch's conclusions are supplemented by the results of formal bench testing conducted by Stereophile's editor, John Atkinson. A second, shorter review by Wes Phillips adds insight.

2. The Absolute Sound

Barry Willis looks at the Onkyo DX-7555 as part of this article, which examines "budget" audio components that he says can hold its own against more costly alternatives. Though discussion is limited, the Onkyo DX-7555 is favorably compared to a $5,000 universal player and highly recommended.

3. ConsumerGuide.com

While we rate Consumer Guide's expertise far below that of Stereophile magazine or The Absolute Sound, it's clear that someone spent a good deal of time with the Onkyo DX-7555 CD player before creating this review. Sound quality is described as excellent, and build quality is praised.

4. Amazon.com

Although there's just a handful of user reviews for the Onkyo DX-7555, all are impressed. Only one owner gives it less than five out of five stars, and even that review is a highly complimentary four out of five-star report and rating. Audio quality, build quality and value are all extensively praised.

5. AudioReview.com

AudioReview.com has fewer reviews than Amazon.com, but user satisfaction seems similar. Reviewers here tend to be audiophiles, and the reviews reflect that in their depth and nature of the comments -- one suggests replacing the stock power cord with an aftermarket audiophile power cord that can cost well over $100 (depending on length) to unleash the full potential of the player.
