400-disc CD jukebox
- CD Text support, custom memo field
- User-programmable groups
- Can control an additional changer
- Convenient to use once programmed
- Some complaints of rough disc handling
- Limited memo field
- Large size
February 2009. Among CD mega-changers or CD jukeboxes capable of storing hundreds of discs, the 400-disc Sony CDP-CX455 gets the most positive feedback. It includes CD Text support and the ability to add your own custom 20-character description in a memo field, though some complain that earlier CD jukeboxes allowed even more descriptive text. The inclusion of a keyboard port makes entering text easy with any PC keyboard. You can group CDs by genre or any other way you like, making it easier for multiple users to share the changer peacefully, or to limit music to what's appropriate for your mood or time of day. For those with larger music collections, you can hook up and control a second changer. One negative is that we've seen a few user reports of disc scratching. The CDP-CX455 is also massive in size. The 300-disc Pioneer PD-F1009 (*est. $245) also gets some positive recognition. Reports say it's a little bit easier on discs, but harder to use. The lack of any way to add disc information is a major negative.
Professional reviewers haven't reviewed any of the current generation of CD jukeboxes, but there's a good amount of user feedback available. In terms of numbers of reviews, Amazon.com has the most by far. We also found some useful feedback at AudioReview.com, Crutchfield.com and Epinions.com.
