Pros
  • Now part of top-rated Verizon network
Cons
  • Verizon's plans are pricey

Verizon Wireless (*Est. $40 per month and up) completed its purchase of Alltel in early 2009, making Verizon the biggest wireless network in the country. Customers award both companies high marks for call quality and customer service in the latest surveys by J.D. Power and Associates and PCMag.com. Customers also say Alltel enjoyed a slight cost advantage over Verizon Wireless, but that has evaporated as Alltel no longer offers its own plans.

Because Alltel customers were switched to Verizon Wireless gradually over the course of 2009, J.D. Power and Associates and PCMag.com both include Alltel as a separate carrier in their 2009 customer surveys. Customers also continued to post reviews of Alltel on PhoneDog.com.
