The Motorola W260g is an entry-level clamshell phone that targets voice-only users. The phone is similar in design to its upgraded and pricier cousins -- the Motorola W370 (*est. $50) and Motorola W360g -- albeit with fewer features. The W260g is slightly smaller and lighter, measuring a compact 3.74 inches by 1.77 inches by 0.67 inches and weighing 3.17 ounces. It has a lower-resolution 128-by-128-pixel display compared with the 128-by-160-pixel display on the W370, but the models share similar keypads equipped with iTap predictive text. The biggest design drawback, according to Blair Mathis at Associated Content, is the lack of a dedicated external volume button, which means navigating menus to change the volume.
The W260g offers superior voice quality supported by Crystal Talk Voice Enhancement. Voice mail, call waiting, caller ID, speakerphone, text messaging, vibration alert, preloaded ringtones and an alarm clock are among the features, although the W260g boasts a 500-contact phone book that offers five times the capacity of the W370. On the other hand, the W370 one-ups its cousin with external alert icons, auto redial, a stopwatch, calendar and calculator as well as a browser that opens the door to downloadable ringtones, picture messaging and access to graphics, news, weather and sports. Still, even with the additional bells and whistles, both the W370 and the W260g are truly voice-only phones, best suited for users who mostly make and receive calls. The W260g is especially a great choice, as Mathis points out, for children prone to dropping or losing phones, or as an extra emergency phone to stash away in the car.

Mathis compares the design of the Motorola W260g with several pricier, upgraded Motorola models -- the W370 and W360g -- but notes that the W260g is intended for users who want a cheap voice-only phone.
