The Samsung SGH-T301G is one of two slider phones in Tracfone's line-up. While experts haven't evaluated the Samsung T301G, owners praise the phone, with several deeming it one of Tracfone's best models. The T301G also scores for outstanding value: Tracfone's other slider phone, the LG290C (*Est. $50, no contract), is more than double the price and the two phones are comparable in design and size. Users note that the slider pops open easily with a push of the thumb, revealing a keypad equipped with predictive text for fast typing. Both the keypad and control buttons are considered easy to use, but owners say little about the display. The T301G has a 128-pixel by 160-pixel, 65,000-color screen, whereas the LG290C's screen packs 240-by-320-pixels with 262,000 colors.
Reception, call quality and features rate well among users. Nearly two-thirds of owners at RadioShack.com list the phone's strong signal as a plus, and a user at PhoneScoop.com says speaker quality is "the best I have ever had." The T301G comes with Bluetooth, text and picture messaging, voice mail, caller ID, a speakerphone, vibrating alert and access to Tracfone's web downloads. Among the organizational tools are a calendar, calculator, alarm clock and stopwatch. The 100-entry phonebook, however, is beat out by the 1,000-entry capacity of the LG290C. Likewise, the LG290C comes with auto redial, voice commands and recording, and a heartier 1.3-megapixel camera, whereas the VGA camera on the T301G is chalked up by users as "okay." On the upside, the Samsung phone packs more memory than its rival – 128 MB versus 22 MB -- and a juicier battery; the T301G is rated at four hours of talk time, the LG290C at three hours.
Although experts have not tested and evaluated the Samsung SGH-T301G, user reviews at PhoneScoop.com, RadioShack.com and Samsung.com provide enough feedback to reveal pros and cons with the phone's performance.
