To test seven gas chainsaws with engine sizes from 35 cc to 38 cc, a Popular Mechanics team "spent three days pruning an ancient orchard, felling trees and crosscutting them into logs." Based on the results, each of the seven chainsaws is given a rating of up to 5 stars. The Husqvarna 240e is rated a perfect 5 out of 5. Reviewers praise its Smart Start technology, smooth operation and vibration-dampening system. They conclude, "This is a great saw." Husqvarna recommends a 13- to 16-inch bar; the bar used for this test was 16 inches long.

About 85 percent say they would recommend this chainsaw to a friend. A few complain that they have trouble starting it despite its Smart Start technology, which is supposed to reduce starting effort. The vast majority, however, are quite satisfied.
