The New York Times blind-tasted Charles Heidsieck 1995 Blanc des Millénaires along with 24 other blanc de blancs, or chardonnay-only, Champagnes. Unfortunately, we're not sure whether or not Wine Review Online, Food and Wine or The Wine Doctor tasted this wine blind. The single consumer review of this wine we read was very enthusiastic.
Reviewers agree that Charles Heidsieck 1995 Blanc des Millénaires is among the best Champagnes in its price class. This complex, elegant wine is said to have aged beautifully since its bottling. Experts say it has the complexity you'd expect from a fine French Champagne, with flavors of honeycomb, flowers, brioche, minerals and even coffee and smoke. Two highly credible reviewers say that that in addition to complexity, this wine's structure and lingering finish give it the edge over the competition. Some critics say it should be drunk immediately, while others say it will continue to develop until 2012. If you're looking for a less expensive Champagne, reviews say that Nicolas Feuillatte Brut NV (*est. $30) is an exceptional value.
