The Char-Griller Outlaw is a barrel-style charcoal grill. Barrel grills generally have larger cooking surfaces than kettle grills do; the Outlaw has just over 1,000 square inches of cooking area counting the warming rack. This design also makes it easier to manipulate coals for indirect cooking. The Outlaw draws notice in reviews for its variety of accessories and its low price. Cast-iron grates and a powder-coat finish make it extremely durable, and the barrel is guaranteed for five years. Options include a side firebox for smoking and a rotisserie attachment. On the downside the Outlaw's larger size means longer warm-up and cool-down times, and it lacks the airflow control you'll find on competitors like the Weber One-Touch Silver (*Est. $80 to $90).
The Char-Griller Outlaw is neglected by most professional review sources, which generally focus on smaller grills. About.com's Derrick Riches, however, names the Char-Griller Outlaw one of the top 10 charcoal grills and writes a full review. Owners and bloggers, many of whom say they barbeque for dozens at a time, post enthusiastically about the Outlaw charcoal grill as well.
