Best budget charcoal grill
- Good value
- Versatile
- Easy to clean
- Durability problems with legs, wheels
- Painted, not powder-coated
- Nylon handles
According to reviews of charcoal grills, the Weber One-Touch Silver kettle grill -- available in 18.5-inch (*Est.$70) or 22.5-inch (*Est.$90) sizes -- has a proven design, efficient heating and an easy-to-use cleaning system, making it the best value among budget charcoal grills. Its name refers to its cleaning system, in which ashes are channeled into a removable tray for easy cleanup. The large dome lid allows the Weber One-Touch Silver to double as a smoker. It comes with a 10-year warranty on the exterior (one year on the cooking grates). However, the kettle is painted, rather than powder-coated, and owners report some dissatisfaction with the sturdiness of this grill's legs and wheels. Others say they are peeved that its nylon handles can become hot. The 22.5-inch Weber One-Touch Silver is roomy enough to handle a 12-pound turkey, but if you need something larger the Char-Griller Outlaw (*Est. $205) earns better reviews for high-volume grilling.
We found the best review of the Weber One-Touch Silver at Cook's Illustrated, which reviews six charcoal grills and compares performance side by side. The barbeque guide at About.com and a blogger at BarbecueGrillsAndSmokers.com both offer expertise and objectivity but give no indication of any formal testing with this product. Owner reviews at Amazon.com and Epinions.com are also helpful.

Blogger "Doug" describes himself as an avid outdoor cooker and offers opinions on a few charcoal grills, including the Weber One-Touch Gold. He says he likes the Weber but notes some negatives: The grill isn't cast iron, there's no heat gauge and the paint job isn't as durable as a powder-coat finish.
