Most cheap digital cameras around $100 receive poor ratings due to lousy image quality and cheap build quality. The Canon PowerShot A1300 fares better than most, with the camera's color reproduction a high point. The camera includes a 16-megapixel CMOS sensor, 5x optical zoom and a 2.7-inch LCD display.
Still, as with similarly priced cameras, overall image quality is pretty mediocre, largely because images are noisy -- even at low ISO settings -- and soft in the corners and around the edges. The autofocus is also rather slow. However, the menu system is intuitive and the camera is very easy to use for beginners. That leads reviewers to say that the Canon PowerShot A1300 is a decent choice if you can't spend much money, but you'll have to keep your expectations in check. If you can afford to spend a bit more, the Canon PowerShot Elph 110 HS (*Est. $180) gets better feedback overall.
The Nikon Coolpix A1300 is a new camera and has yet to attract many professional or user reviews. However, DigitalCameraInfo.com has a detailed multipage report that covers everything from image quality to handling. We also found a user reviews on Amazon.com.
