average laptop.. disappointed, October 12, 2009

I bought it 6 month ago....... my wifi card didnt work.......horrible support, they didnt fix anything.. I changed the wifi card.... but it could get to work a 100 %...... Battery life is poor.......the keyboard its looks and felt cheap. Performance it could be better, but it crash a few times.. probably vista........ round mouse pad sucks..... Pros...... it is compact, overall nice looks...... the integrated camera is nice..... the control for music is nice too. I think... if I hadnnt the problem with the wifi card... i would give it a 4 star..... My last gateway laptop was better............... m505

Ok at first but terrible in the end..., October 10, 2009

Pro's & Con's: Pro's: Nice looking Webcam is good with fun things to do with it. Con's: HORRIBLE SCREEN; I once tripped over the cable and it fell and part of the laptop fell off and then it fell again and the whole screen cracked and went white. The system shut down a few times and we had to get it fixed. Then it happened again. Can get extremely hot. I would not recommend this laptop for anybody!

Great laptop. few bad things, September 4, 2009
+Great price. Unbeatable for all the stuff it comes with

- touch pad for the mouse freezes. SO annoying. I really hate that part. It does heat up a lot on the side. I always think about returning it but i cant find any other laptop that cmpares to the value for the money. Im gonna try to return it for the same laptop.
works great, September 1, 2009

I got it few months ago on $499 sale ... + perfect screen size (13'' is not too small, not too big) + Windows Vista works great on this laptop, no issues at all + with 3GB ram it's really fast, I use VMWARE a lot and it just rocks + looks very nice (very unique) +/- OK keyboard, could be a bit better but overall works good +/- round mouse and the mouse key are not the easiest to use +/- overall size is good, but not that great in comparison to my old IBM laptop - gets pretty hot on the left-back bottom side - does not have hard drive indicator so you really don't know if the HDD is reading/writing - CD ROM can be loud sometimes I did not test the battery, but I did not notice any short use, I am guessing 3-4 hours use is normal. Overall for $499 it's great laptop. Not sure if I would pay more than $600.

Good Laptop, Could Be Better, April 6, 2009
Like this laptop. Nice features. Wish i could have picked out extras like bluetooth.

Laptop gets really hot on left side.

Besides that, love it.

Our Sources

1. Laptop Magazine

Laptop Magazine awards the Gateway UC7807U a four-star rating and a spot on its list of 10 recommended budget laptops. Battery life is criticized, and Dana Wollman says the laptop is on the hefty side for its size, but performance and styling are praised as being more like those of a pricier notebook.

Review: Gateway UC Series (UC7807u), Dana Wollman, Jan. 23, 2009

2. PCMag.com

PCMag.com isn't quite as taken with the Gateway UC7807u as some other reviewers. Price and design are seen as pluses, but performance and relative weight take a hit.

Review: Gateway UC7807u, Cisco Cheng, Feb. 5, 2009

3. Computer Shopper

ComputerShopper.com names the Gateway UC7807u as one of the top five budget laptops. Although the laptop isn't as light as some of its 13-inch competition, Sarah E. Anderson writes that "it more than makes up for that in style and price." Performance is "on par with other notebooks in both its size class and price class."

4. PC World

The Gateway UC7807u scores solidly here. Styling and performance are both complimented, as is the price, which is called "surprisingly decent." What's not a surprise is poor gaming performance, though the laptop will do a great job with any basic business chore, reviewer Darren Gladstone says.

5. CNET

Joshua Goldman calls the Gateway UC7807u "not quite thin, not quite light, but still plenty portable." Battery life and overall performance are described as "humdrum," but mainstream users are satisfied. The circular touchpad is described as both eye-catching and potentially irritating.

Review: Gateway UC7807u, Joshua Goldman, May 5, 2009

6. Wired.com

Bryan Gardiner finds some nits to pick. Battery, gaming performance and weight are the biggest negatives, though a shot is also taken at the circular touchpad. However, the Gateway UC7807u is also praised for cramming "all sorts of functionality into a small, attractive package" and for its "bargain basement price."
