April 2009. The GE Profile DPSE810GGWT Gas Dryer is a good value that delivers both features and performance. All of the most important extras are included, including a moisture sensor to protect clothes from over-drying. You'll also find a drying rack and a stainless-steel drum. Although some dryers are bigger still, the 7.0 -cubic-foot capacity can handle the load for even large families and can dry bulky comforters and other large items as well. The dryer does fall short in the style department, however, and lacks the electronic controls found in more upscale options. If you don't have a gas hookup, the GE Profile DPSE810EGWT Electric Dryer (*est. $530) is also available. While energy costs will be lower with the DPSE810GGWT Gas Dryer for most, the DPSE810EGWT is less expensive initially. If you have a bigger budget, the LG DLG2526W Gas Dryer (*est. $800) is more stylish and a great performer. All of the most important features are included, but some of the extras -- such as a drying rack -- are not.

While there's a bit of feedback for the electric GE Profile DPSE810EGWT Electric Dryer, reviews of its gas-powered DPSE810GGWT twin are harder to come by. We did find a couple of user reviews at AJMadison.com, and we appreciate that this retailer takes the extra step to ensure that its user reviewers actually own the products they're commenting on. Consumer Reports doesn't review the GE Profile DPSE810GGWT, but does test its electric counterpart, and performance should be comparable.

While the GE Profile DPSE810GGWT Gas Dryer isn't among the 40 dryers tested by Consumer Reports for its most recent update, its electric counterpart, the GE Profile DPSE810EGWT, is tested and performance should be similar. Consumer Reports adds that though gas dryers cost more initially, they're cheaper to operate over the long term.
