- Good value for a dryer with a steam feature
- Effective moisture sensor
- Large capacity
- Gas dryers less expensive to operate over the long haul
- Steam feature adds cost
- More expensive initially than electric version
September 2008. The Maytag Bravos Steam MGD6600TQ clothes dryer is complimented for its value and innovative features, including a steam function that can relax wrinkles and otherwise refresh previously washed clothes. While not all experts are convinced that the steam function is a must-have, they say that if it's something you want, this washer delivers it at a relatively attractive price. Other features include an effective sensor that measures dampness in clothes rather than humidity in the drum. Because this is a gas dryer, it's less expensive to run in the long run, but it costs a bit more initially.
We found the best professional review at ConsumerGuide.com, an improving source for dryer reviews. While we still don't think tons of actual testing is being done, someone is certainly giving the dryers they report on more than a casual going-over, and the review is both balanced and critical.
Our Sources
ConsumerGuide.com's coverage is short on testing details, but it does a credible job evaluating the Maytag MGD6600TQ from a user's point of view. The review says that the steam feature is a nice plus, but one that's a luxury rather than a necessity. Still, and especially for a steam-equipped dryer, this Maytag model is called a good value.
