The Maytag Centennial MGDC300XW is a gas dryer that earns high ratings from users for its performance and reliability. As a budget-priced dryer, it lacks some of the frills found on higher-end models, such as a stainless-steel drum or electronic controls. However, it does have the one feature experts recommend most: a moisture sensor, which helps control energy use and prevent overdrying that can damage clothing. It also offers such extras as a reversible door, an interior drum light and a wrinkle-guard setting, which tumbles the clothes periodically after the cycle ends to keep wrinkles from setting in.
Users say this dryer is roomy and efficient, and the moisture sensor does a good job of getting the clothes to the right dryness. We also did not see any of the durability complaints that are common with dryers in this price range. The only problem users have with this dryer is that it's a bit noisy, but they generally consider that a minor drawback. We did find better reviews overall for the top-rated Samsung DV520AGW/XAA gas dryer (*Est. $1,050) , but it's significantly more expensive.
The Maytag Centennial MGDC300XW has not been included in any professional tests, but it gets excellent ratings from about 45 owners at HomeDepot.com and on the Maytag website. We also consulted the 2011 appliance-satisfaction survey conducted by J.D. Power and Associates to learn about customer satisfaction with the Maytag brand as a whole.
