The Samsung DV520AGW/XAA is the gas-powered version of the top-rated Samsung DV520AEW/XAA (*Est. $950) . Like the electric version, this dryer has 7.5 cubic feet of capacity and a wealth of useful features: 13 drying cycles, adjustable temperature, a moisture sensor, a rust-resistant, stainless-steel drum with an interior light and a drying rack. One special feature of this dryer is its steam setting, which can be used to freshen clothes and remove wrinkles.
In professional tests, this dryer gets high marks for its drying performance, quiet operation and ease of use. The only problem reviewers found is that large loads of clothing may come out severely twisted and tangled. If the Samsung is too expensive for your budget, you might prefer the more basic Maytag Centennial MGDC300XW (*Est. $600) . Though it has fewer features, it gets good ratings for performance, durability and value.
ConsumerReports.org no longer tests gas dryers, but it evaluates the Samsung DV520AGW/XAA based on the performance of the electric Samsung DV520AEW/XAA. The Good Housekeeping Research Institute also subjects this dryer to detailed testing and awards it an overall grade of A-minus, though it is not clear whether it's the gas or electric version that was tested. User reviews for this dryer are scarce, but we dug up a handful at BestBuy.com. We also referred to the latest consumer satisfaction survey from J.D. Power and Associates for information about customer satisfaction with Samsung dryers in general.
