Reliable grinder without a huge mess, November 16, 2009

I bought this grinder 3 years ago when my old one broke. I had no particular reason for buying this one over any other model, but I was very happy with it over the years. It grinds the coffee for a set amount of time, depending on the number of cups and type of grind selected (good for people who need coffee *before* attempting anything complex like estimating grinding time). Two weeks ago I broke the grinder (I snapped a piece of the plastic while trying to clean it). No big deal - for a grinder under $20, getting 3 years of twice-daily use out of it seemed more than satisfactory. I went out to get a new one and bought whatever was on the shelf - after all, a grinder is a grinder. Or so I thought. To my dismay, the new grinder catches half the grinds while spraying the other half all over the counter. After ensuring that it wasn't user error, I gave up and am ordering this grinder again. I can tolerate the noise (this is, after all, grinding coffee beans - not trying to lull them to sleep); I cannot tolerate coffee grinds all over my kitchen. This little grinder does what it should effectively and very easily, without the mess. Given that it costs under $20, I think that makes it a 5-star product.

Works well, looks good, November 16, 2009
This grinder looks nice and grinds coffee well and is pretty cheap to. Can't imagine what else you'd want from a coffee grinder :)
Well worth the price., November 13, 2009

If you're looking for a cheap blade-based grinder, it doesn't get any better than this. I bought this thing over 2 years ago and I've used it approx 4-5 times a week without a single problem. It even survived the time I got drunk and decided to try grinding gummy bears (bad idea). The buttons make it easy to asjust the # of cups to be brewed and the coarseness of the grind. I use the coarse grind for my french press and it comes out perfectly every time. Excluding the base, I put the all pieces in the dishwasher and it emerges looking brand new. I haven't read the instructions, so I have no idea whether dishwasher use is recommended, but it hasn't stopped mine from working like a champ.

An amazing little grinder!, November 8, 2009

I had the IDS55-4 model for many years. It finally began turning the beans into powder which made a huge mess during brewing. But right until then it was a perfectly adequate grinder. I ordered this model with a little trepidation. Sometimes "extra features" just aren't all that great. However, it's really terrific! I pick medium grind and the number of cups depending on how many beans I'm grinding, and press down. It stops when done, no more guesswork. I love that the grinding piece comes off completely so that thorough cleaning is simple. For me, the only con is it has no on/off switch. If you want to have it powered off between grinds it has to be unplugged. Thankfully several other reviews mentioned that the base cord is wrapped inside around the bottom. Otherwise the cord would be too short to use.

Mr. Coffee Electric Coffee Grinder IDS77, November 2, 2009

The Mr. Coffee Model IDS77 arrived promptly from Amazon and works great. Its a little noisy, but does what its suppose to. I would like to see the twist on and twist off alignment markings somewhat larger for us senior citizens. The Chamber Maid does help, but I also use a small brush to grab what the Maid does not pick up, especially within the lid. Overall, I am happy with this unit.
