Although some professional reviewers call the Black & Decker DCM2000 a top pick, owner-written reviews say that the machine is prone to breaking and makes coffee of average to below-average quality. Editors at Cook's Illustrated call this coffee maker easy to use and intuitively designed, but owners posting to Amazon.com give it below-average scores, and several complain that their Black & Decker coffee makers are short-lived. Among basic coffee makers, the Mr. Coffee JWX27 (*Est. $40) gets the best reviews.

ConsumerReports.org and Cook's Illustrated have tested the 12-cup, glass-carafe Black & Decker SmartBrew DCM2000 coffee maker, although a more recent Cook's Illustrated instead rates a 10-cup thermal Back & Decker. It also receives a fair number of posts from owners at Amazon.com.
