Cuisinart DCC-1100

Pros
  • Automatic shutoff
  • Small-pot setting
  • Pause function
  • Time-to-clean indicator
  • Three-year warranty
Cons
  • Some reports of leaks
  • Plastic housing

The Cuisinart 12-Cup Programmable DCC-1100 is a cheaper version of the highly rated Cuisinart Brew Central DCC-1200 (*Est. $80) . For $20 less, you get a plastic housing instead of stainless steel and no adjustable temperature on the hot plate. This programmable coffee maker automatically shuts off and double-heats the water for brewing four cups or less. It also has a pause function that lets you sneak the first cup and then continue brewing the rest of the glass pot, as well as a time-to-clean indicator. Owner reviews are positive; some say the Cuisinart DCC-1100 is prone to an early death, but there is a three-year warranty. Others say there are leaks and that it's hard to access the water tank.

ConsumerReports.org rates the Cuisinart Brew Central DCC-1200 rather than the DCC-1100, and Good Housekeeping magazine covers the Cuisinart DCC-1000, so we turned to owner reviews. We found hundreds of user ratings at Amazon.com, and a smattering at Epinions.com and Cooking.com.
