Cuisinart DCC-3200 Review
Bottom Line

If you want a coffee maker that does a great job and is absolutely loaded with features, look no further than the Cuisinart DCC-3200. This 8-cup drip coffee maker has settings for brew strength, keep-warm temperature and making smaller batches -- 1 to 4 cups. This Cuisinart DCC model is stainless steel and gets good reviews for durability; plastic models in the DCC line tend to fare worse in that regard. The only real complaint we saw about the DCC-3200 is its height -- at nearly 17 inches tall it won't fit under some cupboards. It does have a relatively small footprint, though, saving some countertop real estate.

Breaking it down

Performance

Stays in the heat sweet spot. One professional testing organization gives a similar model in the Cuisinart DCC series an "Excellent" rating for brew performance, noting that it meets the recommended brewing temperature of 195 to 205 degrees Fahrenheit for five or six minutes. Good Housekeeping testers agree, saying the model it looks at "brews at an optimal temperature for producing good-tasting coffee" and noting that the coffee is very hot. The DCC-3200 itself gets kudos from owners, especially those who like their coffee scorching hot. Many note that the finished brew tastes as good as coffee they get from Starbucks. The DCC-3200 also gets high marks for how quickly it brews a full pot of coffee.

Features

Fully loaded. There isn't a feature available that you won't find on the Cuisinart DCC-3200 drip coffee maker, something that reviewers say is a huge plus and makes this coffee maker a great value. These include a fully programmable, 24 hour timer; two brew strength settings for regular or bold; zero- to four-hour auto shutoff; brew pause so you can interrupt brewing to grab a cup; and settings for smaller, one-to four-cup quantities. There's also a ready alert tone that can be muted if you don't want your coffee maker making any more noise than it has to. Rounding out the perks, the DCC-3200 includes a permanent use coffee filter so you don't have to purchase paper filters. Owners give the various features high marks across the board and many say that they purchased this Cuisinart because they wanted a fully loaded coffee maker to give them plenty of options.

Ease of use

Fairly simple in spite of its bells and whistles. The Cuisinart DCC line does pretty well in this regard. One very similar model gets a Very Good for convenience (which is comparable to ease of use) in a comparative test. Good Housekeeping also tests a similar model, but takes that rating down a notch, saying, "Éits controls are a little tricky to figure out." Users weighing in on the DCC-3200 don't seem to have any issues, though, and they rave about how intuitive the buttons are. Most also love the backlit LCD display which is large and easy to read and makes it easy to program. The water reservoir is located at the top of the unit, and some say the water leaks or drip from the carafe when they're pouring it in; a common complaint with this type of coffee maker.

Appearance

Tall; yet compact. This 14-cup coffee maker is quite tall -- nearly 17 inches. Some owners say they can't keep it in the location they prefer because it does not fit underneath their cupboards. A few returned it due to that issue. However, in spite of its height, it actually has a rather small footprint for a fully-featured drip coffee maker, many note, and they're pleased that it takes up less countertop room than other coffee makers they have owned. The DCC-3200 is made from stainless steel with black accents and gets very good reviews for durability. Other models in Cuisinart's DCC series that are made entirely of plastic get much poorer reviews, with many complaints of the hinges on the lid breaking after a rather short time, or the print (that indicates what the buttons do) wearing off the plastic face.
