Basic coffee maker
- Inexpensive
- Nice-looking
- Pause function
- Built-in water filter
- Mostly plastic
- Pot dribbles during pouring, some say
- No batch-size selector
The 12-cup Mr. Coffee JWX27 is a good choice for those seeking a cheap coffee maker, professional and user reviews say. This programmable model includes some nice features like a pause function, brew-strength selector, cord storage and a built-in water filter. The carafe is glass, and it gets some mixed reviews for pouring, with some complaining of dribbles. Also, the housing is mostly plastic; some fancier coffee makers are made of nicer-looking stainless steel. Owner reviews for the Mr. Coffee JWX27 are generally positive. If you can spend more, reviews suggest the Cuisinart Brew Central DCC-1200 (*Est. $80), which unlike the JWX27 has settings for different size batches and has a nicer looking stainless steel housing.
We found the best ratings at ConsumerReports.org, which rates more than 30 coffee makers, although you'd need a subscription to see where the Mr. Coffee JWX27 ranks. Our usual complaint about ConsumerGuide.com reviews is they appear to be written off specifications rather than actually tested, but the Mr. Coffee does seem to be taken for a test drive. We found no owner reviews at Amazon.com, but nearly 50 at Walmart.com.

While many of the reviews on this website are mere rundowns of the specifications, this one indicates hands-on use of the Mr. Coffee JWX27. We still wonder whether there's a large enough context in which to assign a numerical grade, in this case four out of five.

3. Walmart.com
About four dozen owner reviews give a very high composite score to the Mr. Coffee JWX27, with only a handful rating it fewer than four out of five stars. Some say the pot leaks when they pour.
