Testers say the Organic Café Femenino from Utah-based Caffe Ibis is a lighter-bodied coffee that tastes smooth and delicious with or without milk and sugar. Reviewers praise the coffee's complexity and lack of bitterness. Caffe Ibis' Organic Café Femenino also gets high marks for its environmentally and socially responsible production. The coffee has organic and Fair Trade certifications, and it's also shade-grown, which protects natural bird habitats. The coffee beans are grown on woman-owned farms in Peru. While it's more expensive than your average supermarket coffee, reviewers say the price is worth it for a highly certified coffee that tastes good to boot. We also found good reviews for another organic and Fair Trade light roast, Nell's Breakfast Blend (*Est. $8.50 for 10 oz.) from Newman's Own Organics.
Fair Trade-certified coffees aren't typically included in major coffee reviews by sources like ConsumerReports.org or Cook's Illustrated. However, we did find some taste tests that focus exclusively on this type of coffee. Both TheNibble.com and Delicious Living magazine conduct taste tests of Fair Trade coffee that include Caffe Ibis Organic Café Femenino. Kenneth Davids at CoffeeReview.com doesn't test this particular coffee, but he does share his opinion on several other Caffe Ibis coffees.
