Dunkin' Donuts Original Blend coffee gets good scores from some coffee drinkers for its smooth, "classic" taste, but others find it be bitter, thin and weak. Some tasters report that the coffee tastes rich and pleasant, but others say it is inconsistent from batch to batch, so a good cup of coffee can be followed by a bad one. This Dunkin' Donuts roast is available in pre-ground or whole-bean varieties. We found better reviews for Eight O'Clock Coffee's 100% Colombian (*Est. $6 for 12 oz.), which tops some taste tests of supermarket coffee.
We found the best review at Cook's Illustrated, where Dunkin' Donuts Original Blend is tested along with eight other whole-bean supermarket coffees. ConsumerReports.org included Dunkin' Donuts Classic in an older coffee review, but it's no longer available online. We also found helpful reviews from CoffeeReview.com, the San Francisco Chronicle and NBC's "Today" show.

Editors test eight whole-bean supermarket coffees, and the magazine also sends the coffees to a lab for testing (including a measurement of immature beans, so-called "quakers" that get past the sorter and spoil a brew). Full details are available to subscribers.

"Today" show food editor Phil Lempert evaluates seven coffees, but doesn't describe his testing methods. His advice is to avoid robusta beans in favor of arabica, the latter used by winner Illy and runner-up Dunkin' Donuts Original Blend, which he describes as "smooth" and "mellow."
