Disappointing!, September 28, 2009
Heavy, delivered on a skid, then didn't work. Got a persistent error about a toner cartridge that was impossible to eliminate. Documentation was superficial, not helpful at all, no telephone number to call therefore no alternative but to pack the thing up and return it. Too bad for Amazon and a lot of effort on our part.
Great printer for SOHO, September 6, 2009
This printer was exactly what I was looking for in a SOHO printer. Fast, beautiful prints. The toner is pricey, but I do see that there is some compatible toner out now that is less expensive. I did what some suggest and put in a 1 GB stick of memory from another source and it works great.
If you do not need a duplexing printer, this is a great choice.
difficult to adjust color, June 23, 2009

It is difficult to adjust the color, I have to do it mostly in the printing program and then if I print the same page 6 times I will get different color intensities for each print. I had a Techtronic phaser before and it was very easy to use. I had to replace it when they stopped making parts for it. Now I have this printer and I have been unsatisfied with it from the beginning, phone calls for support have not helped. I would never buy another Xerox printer.

Replacement toner is VERY expensive and wastes color toner., March 3, 2009

We use this printer for our business which prints only black and white pages 90% of the time. However, unless you go in and make some manual changes, the printer will use color toner even though you are only printing a black and white page. Since each replacement cartridge (there are 4 total, 3 color and one black) costs $200 that becomes a HUGE waste of money. The manual change forces the printer to never print color which means the times we need to print color we have to go back and change the setting back before printing. Another thing I cannot stand is that there is no "toner saver" mode. Every other laser printer we had would allow us to choose to print our pages slightly lighter to save on toner. Since 95% of what we print is for in house use and not shown to a client, we have no need to print in full quality every time. However, this printer does not give you the option to lower quality to save toner. This printer is also very large and extremely heavy. Don't expect to sit this on the same desk with your computer unless you want to use up the majority of your space. We chose this printer because we needed something that was more reliable and could handle printing hundreds of pages an hour but the waste of toner has made it so we will be looking for a new printer soon. With that said, the print quality, speed, and reliability have been excellent on this machine.

Great printer, great for home office, February 8, 2009

I purchased this Xerox 6180 for home office printing, and I really like it. I have owned it for half a month. The printer is extremely well built, has ethernet port and USB port for connections. I hooked it up to my wireless router through an ethernet cable, and now every computer at my home can print wirelessly to the printer. The color is vivid and setup is quite straight forward in my case. A good thing is that I don't need to install junks other than the driver. The printer does not have a big footprint, but is very heavy, of ~75 lbs. The paper tray accepts about 250 pages. Since I care about power consumption, I measured the power usage of this unit. The printer enters power save mode after certain time (this can be set in the menu, default is 30 mins) and only consumes about 5W in the power saving mode. At the time of printing, the power consumption is about 700W. When "awake" and not printing, it consumes about 30W of power. I also upgraded the memory in the printer. I used a 512Mb DDR2 SoDIMM modules from a laptop upgrade. The installation is a breeze, through a door on the back of the printer. This is one of the best economic color laser out there, especially with Xerox cutting price on this unit.

5. CNET

CNet's Felisa Yang rates the Xerox Phaser 6180N 3.5 out of five stars but ultimately says while speed and text quality are fine, the graphics reproduction could be a smidgen better and that the Lexmark C530dn (*est. $490) is a slightly better value.
