So far so GREAT..., August 8, 2009

I learned about this printer from the good reviews on [...], and although it had no reviews (yet) on amazon I decided to give it a shot. I purchased through Price Pros (shipping was much cheaper than others). Item arrived on time. Printer is heavy, so if you're looking for something small and "easily stashable" then this probably isn't for you. I use it for my home office (moderate use) and was sick of spending a fortune on ink jet cartridges so I personally don't care about the size. Setup took about 15 mins (actually pretty simple if you know how to follow directions) and I have it hooked up through an old apple airport wireless router. Currently have an iMac at the house and use a PC for work (still dreaming for the day when my office will make the switch to Mac). This printer works great on both and setup was just as easy on the windows machine. I wish I had more drama to write about, but it simply works like a charm. Prints fantastic and VERY fast. After about 15 minutes of being idle, it goes into sleep mode and the little green light comes on letting me know it's ready for action. Warmup time is about 6 seconds (much quicker than my old hp inkjet). I've read that some laser printers will suck all of the power out of a circuit (dimming lights, etc) and this one is plugged in with all of my entertainment system and I have no problems with it. I've only had it a week, so may need to write more later. I don't print a ton of photos on my printer (why waste $ when I can order professional prints for $0.05 online?), but I do print a ton of color documents. So far I love it and feel great about the purchase. -good job Xerox

Our Sources

1. Computer Shopper (UK)

British website Computer Shopper reviews some color laser printers, but the reviews, while covering all the main features, tend not to be comparative. On the whole, the Phaser 6280N is found to be an "excellent business printer" by reviewer Kat Orphanides.

2. PC Pro

PC Pro publishes color laser printers reviews that are comparative, but less comprehensive than others and minimally documented. In this review, Dave Mitchell praises the speed and quality of the 6280N, but balks at operating costs. He finds that the Dell 3130cn would be a better value, but his calculations are based on British prices and availability. For instance, in the U.S., the Xerox model's upgrades cost significantly less, not more, than those of the Dell printer.

3. PCMag.com

PCMag.com has among the best and most numerous reviews for color laser printers. While they have yet to examine the Xerox Phaser 6280N, its predecessor, the 6180N, gets an Editors' Choice award as "a good choice as a color-laser workhorse in a small office." Reviewer M. David Stone says it produces "high-quality text and reasonably high-quality graphics."
