Although it's been surpassed by others in the battle for best corded gaming mouse, the Logitech G5 still earns kudos from reviewers for both performance and value. On the market for a number of years, the G5 benefited from a 2007 design refresh, which improved the sensor and added oft-requested thumb buttons -- the lack of which many critics said was a serious flaw in the original G5.
Although many older reviews exist for the Logitech G5 gaming mouse, many predate 2007's design change and don't account for new competitors. However, good insight can be drawn from up-to-date reviewers like ExtremeTech.com and Virtual-Hideout.net. CNET is also up-to-date, and the site reviews more mice than most others, but their report on the G5 isn't quite as detailed. We also consulted user reviews at sites like Amazon.com.
Our Sources
Virtual-Hideout.net has one of the most in-depth reports on the second-generation Logitech G5, now with an extra thumb button. This report makes several relevant comparisons and concludes with a list of pros and cons. Testing is superb.

2. CNET
Rich Brown's review of the Logitech G5 at CNET isn't as detailed as the one at Virtual-Hideout.net, but it does a decent job of highlighting positives and negatives. More importantly, CNET reviews many different models of mice, which helps them effectively rate the G5 against the competition.
Review: Logitech G5 Laser Mouse (2007), Rich Brown, March 20, 2007
Although ExtremeTech.com does not completely review the redesigned Logitech G5, it rates the mouse based on its highly detailed report on the first-generation version and in light of its design tweaks and new competition. The site's conclusion is that while the G5 remains an impressive competitor, it now trails some more feature-laden options.

4. Amazon.com
About 250 users have weighed in on the second-generation Logitech G5, and most call it a winner. Though complaints are few, we noted some who hated the textured feel of the mouse, which sports a black on blue crackle paint job.
