Best CRT computer monitor
- Good colors
- Good viewing angles
- Long warranty
- Integrated speakers
- Bulky
- Heavy
- Expensive compared to LCDs
Reports say that the 17-inch AOC CT700G CRT monitor is the best of a nearly extinct species. Colors are clear and bright, and the viewing angles are excellent. The maximum resolution is 1,280 pixels by 1,024 pixels, but your eyes might be happier at 1,024 x 768 pixels, since that resolution can be displayed at a less fatiguing refresh rate. Extras are few, but a base with integrated speakers and a decent three-year warranty are certainly nice. Business users -- especially those using Dell systems -- might want to investigate the Dell E773c (*est. $140). That monitor has a three-year warranty that includes an exchange provision that will ship a replacement monitor back to you on the next business day. Keep in mind that reviewers say that CRT monitors no longer hold an advantage over LCD, and you can get a thinner, lighter 19-inch LCD monitor for about the same price as this 17-inch CRT.
As consumer interest and available models have waned, so have professional reviews of CRT monitors. However, some users still prefer them and we found some good owner-written reports at Newegg.com, a technology retailer.
