The 2011 Volkswagen Eos (Base MSRP: $32,940 to $36,100) is an attractive, hard-top convertible cruiser whose price puts it in competition with other convertibles that offer better performance and even more style at a similar price point. For 2011 the Volkswagen Eos convertible is carried over unchanged, save for some minor detail changes (such as new wheels) in its available trim levels. It's essentially the same car as the 2009 Volkswagen Eos (*Est. $31,615 to $35,200), which we review in detail, including links to a variety of credible third-party reviewers and agencies. Visit the 2009 review for a comprehensive look at the Volkswagen Eos.
A 2-liter, turbocharged four-cylinder is the sole engine option, and it's paired with either a traditional, six-speed, manual gearbox or Volkswagen's six-speed, dual-clutch, DSG, automated manual The stick-shift version is rated by the Environmental Protection Agency at an efficient 21 mpg city/31 mpg highway/25 mpg combined, while the DSG is rated at 22 mpg city/30 mpg highway/25 mpg combined.
The Volkswagen Eos includes standard safety equipment like pop-up roll bars for rollover protection, front- and front seat-mounted side airbags, stability control, antilock brakes and traction control. In independent tests at the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, VW's hard-top convertible scores ratings of "Good" in both frontal-offset and side-impact crashes. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has not crash tested the Volkswagen Eos at all.
The 2012 Volkswagen Eos has been restyled. It was introduced at the 2010 Los Angeles International Auto Show and will go on sale in March 2011.
