The Whirlpool Gold G7CE3034XB is a 30-inch electric cooktop that reviewers say offers good performance for a relatively low price. It has a ceramic glass surface with four heating elements, ranging in power from 1,200 to 3,000 watts -- as powerful as the high-powered burner on the top-rated LG LCE3081ST (*Est. $1,100). In professional tests, it performs as well as the LG for both high-temperature and low-temperature cooking. However, it doesn't boil water quite as quickly as the Kenmore 42732 (*Est. $710), our top-rated budget electric cooktop.
Nonetheless, users say this cooktop offers quick, responsive heating; one user says it's "more like cooking with gas" than most electric cooktops. A couple of reviews note that, like other smoothtops, this cooktop requires the use of a special ceramic cleaner to prevent scratches, but most users still find it easy to clean.
ConsumerReports.org includes the Whirlpool Gold G7CE3034XB in its latest test of cooktops. Along with 24 other electric smoothtops, it is rated on its speed at bringing water to a boil and its ability to melt chocolate and simmer tomato sauce at low heat. User reviews for this cooktop are scarce; we found fewer than a dozen, scattered across sites such as Amazon.com, AJMadison.com and Buzzillions.com. The 2012 Home Appliance Survey from J.D. Power and Associates provides information about customer satisfaction with Whirlpool appliances in general (although Whirlpool Gold, a higher-end brand, is not rated separately).
