Panasonic handle defect, July 27, 2009My handle on this drill (Panasonic EY7540) has broken twice as a result of being dropped-the handle breaks off where it is connected to the battery pack. When you are climbing around on ladders and rafters… tools get dropped- especially drills. However they shouldn't break- they can make plastics that survive airplane crashes so they should be able to make a drill that survives a fall of a dozen feet. It fact some companies do- other drill brands I own have survived many falls. The first time the drill broke it cost $150 to get repaired. This second time (a month later) I packaged it up, sent it back to Panasonic and told them to keep it. I can't afford a tool this fragile. This is good tool for a cabinet maker but not for someone who works on a ladder.

At the time of this writing, only a couple owners review the 14.4-volt Panasonic impact driver at Amazon.com, both praising it for its light weight and good control. One review is especially significant because it compares this model with the 12-volt Panasonic impact driver that has a digital clutch. Note that you can get the same impact driver here in a kit with a light, for a lower price.
