Bottom line

The Panasonic KX-TG4011N (Est. $25 with one handset) generates hundreds of reviews from owners posting at retailer sites, and it earns solid overall ratings at most. Reviewers praise it for its clear sound quality, long range and battery life as well as ease of use. There are a few complaints concerning performance and the lack of a headset jack, but judging from reviews, it's still a great choice for a no-frills cordless phone.

Solid sound for a budget phone. Most owners agree that the Panasonic KX-TG4011N is a solid cordless phone for those who don't want to pay for bells and whistles. The phone is easy to set up and use, as long as you follow the instruction manual, and many consumers say that the ringer is louder than they expected. There's no headset jack. Sound quality is great overall, and most agree that conversations come in clear, and the speakerphone function works well enough. Most experts and owners say this DECT 6.0 Plus phone delivers very good range -- some say you can walk outside your house without reception issues -- however, complaints that the phone sometimes drops calls can be found as well. Battery life is very good overall.

Reasonably durable, though sensitive to wear and tear. Most owners are pleased with the Panasonic KX-TG4011N's design; the handset is lightweight and reasonably compact, and the base doesn't take up too much space. The downside is that the handset may be more vulnerable when dropped onto a hard surface, such as a kitchen floor, than would larger or sturdier phones. Only a few consumers chime in to address durability after buying the phone. It holds up well for most, though some say the words and labeling on the phone started to peel off from usual wear and tear. Should you ever need to swap out the batteries, you'd only need two rechargeable AAA batteries. The included one-year warranty covers parts and labor.

The bare necessities. The Panasonic KX-TG4011N doesn't offer many of the extras found on more expensive cordless phones, but it still packs a decent feature set for its budget price. There's conferencing, speakerphone (handset only), an intercom function and support for up to 50 phone-book contacts. There's also caller ID and call-waiting functionality. Those looking for more robust features will be disappointed, however. There's no answering system, talking caller ID, backlit keypad or speed dial. As previously mentioned, the KX-TG4011N has no headset jack; this is a deal breaker for some reviewers.
