Panasonic KX-TGF382M Review
Bottom Line

If you're looking for a cordless phone system with great sound quality and lots of features, experts and owners say the Panasonic KX-TGF382M is a top choice. Sound is clear when making calls or listening to messages, the built-in answering system is robust, and while setting up this system can be a little challenging, once that's done, ease of use is excellent.

Performance

Excellent all around. Experts that have looked at the Panasonic KX-TGF382M find lots to like. Sound quality is excellent when making or receiving calls and when listening to recorded messages on the answering machine. The range is among the longest of any cordless phone system. We did see a couple of comments regarding the sound quality of the cordless handsets, but most have no complaints.

Features

Everything you can think of, and then some. The Panasonic KX-TGF382M is one of the most feature-packed cordless phones available. The list of extras starts with a digital answering system that can hold up to 18 minutes of messages. It's also Bluetooth-enabled, and Panasonic's Link2Cell technology can link to up to two smartphones so that you can make or receive cellular calls using any of the handsets. A free Android (only) app can keep you apprised of online activities, such as newly received emails or SMS messages, as well as social media updates from Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. The base unit is corded, and has battery backup so that you can make and receive calls even during a power outage.

There's more: A baby monitor function can alert you to a child's activity  by sending alerts to the system's base unit or to any phone number you designate. One-button call block makes it easy to swat away nuisance calls, and the system can block up to 250 numbers. There's also talking caller and text ID, a speakerphone, call waiting, hold, intercom and more. Like most modern cordless phones, it is DECT 6.0 compliant for the best freedom from interference. The Panasonic KX-TGF382M comes with a corded base unit and two cordless handsets. Versions with one handset -- Panasonic KX-TGF380M (Est. $70) --and three handsets -- Panasonic KX-TGF383M (Est. $105) -- are also offered. The system can support up to six handsets, but at around $40 each, extras are pricy compared to the cordless handsets used by other cordless phones.

Ease of use/durability

Great usability -- once it's set up. One expert reviewer complains a little that set up is overly complicated, but then also gives the Panasonic KX-TGF382M top grades for overall usability. The answering machine is also called very easy to use, but with the caveat that it is easy to accidentally erase messages you haven't yet listened to. User feedback reflects that. We also saw comments that the display on the base unit is large and easy to read, and that the one-button call block is a welcome and useful plus. A couple of complaints regarding sound quality on the handsets were noted, but those are a distinct minority. We saw no comments regarding units that failed prematurely at the time this report was produced.
