Each of these coupes is also powered by a 140-horsepower four-cylinder rated at 25-36 mpg, which means they qualify as a ULEV-2 (Ultra-Low Emission Vehicle). The sportier Civic Si coupe, which gets a 197-horsepower engine and six-speed manual transmission, is reported to be nimble and fun to drive (though the engine makes the most of its power at very high revs). Critics say all models have a nice sporty edge with competent handling and good driver feedback. The Civic's best assets, according to reviewers, are its refinement, its solid build quality and its reliability, all of which contribute to its class-leading resale value. Among the few cars reviews suggest as worthy alternatives are the Scion tC (*est. $15,300 to $17,800) and the Volkswagen Rabbit two-door hatchback (*est. $15,600 to $16,675).

Many reviews that group the Civic coupe together with the sedan provide useful information. Consumer Reports has an excellent review based on test driving several different models. Edmunds.com names the Civic among its top picks for coupes, and provides a useful and comprehensive summary. ConsumerGuide.com names the Civic as a "Best Buy" and gives driving impressions based on four different sedan and coupe models. TheCarConnection.com and Kelley Blue Book have coupe-specific reviews, complete with pros and cons and driving impressions. Cars.com and MyRide.com each give the Civic top awards.

The front-drive Honda Civic coupe comes in a wide range of trim levels starting with the price-leader, the DX model. However, reviews warn that shoppers hoping to spend only the base price may be disappointed by the lack of features such as air conditioning, a center console and an audio system. The LX model has all these features and more. For even more equipment, there's the EX and the EX-L (the L is for leather upholstery). All models, including the DX, come with an impressive set of safety features, including six airbags, an antilock braking system (ABS), active head restraints and more.
