The Infiniti G37 wins "best" or "recommended" awards from several sources, but comparison tests and road-test reviews give better descriptions of what it's like to drive the car. Edmunds.com, Motor Trend and Automobile Magazine all have excellent head-to-head comparison tests between the G37 and the BMW 335i coupe. NewCarTestDrive.com has a detailed road test, and there are three individual staff reviews available on the J.D. Power and Associates blog, Power Steering. In addition to a descriptive review, Cars.com offers opinions from seven newspaper auto writers. The PBS television series "Motor Week" and Automobile magazine each name the G37 among their top cars of the year.
Reviewers consistently compare the Infiniti G37 to the benchmark BMW 3 Series coupe (*est. $35,600 to $43,000), and almost all of them say that although the G37 comes impressively close, it can't beat the BMW -- except on price. For similarly equipped models, the Infiniti presents a significant discount, while also offering plenty of luxury and convenience features in the cabin, outstanding handling and a potent 330-horsepower V-6. Like the 3 Series, the G37 offers manual and automatic transmissions (though AWD will not be an option until 2009). The G37's ride is reported to be a bit harsh for some -- especially when equipped with the sport version's 19-inch wheels --- and its rear seats are barely large enough to accommodate adults. The G37's 7.4 cubic-foot trunk is criticized for its small size, though the rear seat back folds to expand capacity. Fuel economy ratings are mediocre at 17-18 mpg city and 24-26 mpg highway and lag behind those for the BMW coupe. For similar handling and performance at a lower price (and no backseat), some reviews suggest the Nissan 350Z coupe (*est. $28,510 to $38,680).

The results of Motor Trend's head-to-head comparison show that the 2007 BMW 335i is slightly faster and delivers better fuel economy than the Infiniti G37. The Infiniti wins the comparison, however, because of the "micro performance margins and the macro price differential."
