Owner reviews suggest that the E-500 Mini Dehumidifier is a good dehumidifier for small, enclosed spaces, including pet cages, small refrigerators and gun safes. It also works well in small bathrooms and closets, especially because it doesn't need electricity to draw humidity out of the air. Instead, the Eva-Dry E-500 uses silica crystals that absorb about 8 to 10 ounces of water from the air over a 30- to 60-day period. When its blue silica crystals turn pink, just plug in the E-500 for 12 to 14 hours to dry out the crystals.
Although most owners report good results with the Eva-Dry E-500, a significant minority say that their units had no noticeable effect on humidity, even in a small space. Another problem users describe is that the unit is too heavy to stay plugged into a wall outlet without support. A couple of owners report that the E-500 fell and broke while charging, spilling its load of tiny beads everywhere. This does not appear to be a problem with the smaller Eva-Dry E-333 Mini Dehumidifier (*Est. $25), but this unit only works in spaces up to 333 cubic feet. Both Eva-Dry dehumidifiers come with an impressive five-year warranty.
