The Soleus CFM-40E gets better owner reviews than other dehumidifiers in its price range, but it still receives its share of complaints about durability and customer service that are all too common with dehumidifiers. Reviews say the Soleus CFM-40E is quieter than most, with a washable filter. The dehumidifier can work in rooms as cold as 36 degrees Fahrenheit without icing up. The Soleus CFM-40E is rated to remove about 40 pints of moisture per day from the air, but be aware that the collection cup has a capacity of 11.5 pints, so you'll need to be sure to empty it or hook up the dehumidifier to a drain with a hose. If you don't want to empty a dehumidifier so often, reviews suggest the 70-pint Frigidaire FDF70S1 (*Est. $200), which has a collection capacity of 17 pints along with a hose so you can set it up for continuous drainage.
There aren't many professional reviews for dehumidifiers. ConsumerReports.org has the best coverage but doesn't review many models. Thus we find owner reviews at Amazon.com, Epinions.com and Newegg.com better indicators over the longer haul. As is usually the case at this website, there is no indication of testing and little information that can't be gleaned from reading a manufacturer's brochure. The Soleus CFM-40E is rated "below average," but the only drawback noted is that you must wait 30 minutes after shutoff to empty it.
