Rather than going for the small box look of traditional home theater PCs, the Acer Revo RL100-UR20P nettop instead uses a sleek, thin rectangular case that appears similar to a Blu-ray player and seems right at home in an entertainment center. Experts say the PC works very well as an HTPC thanks to its built-in Blu-ray drive, digital S/PDIF and HDMI ports, Wi-Fi and DLNA capabilities, and integrated Nvidia ION graphics. It also features a volume wheel built into the exterior of the case and a unique wireless keyboard/touchpad combination slate for controlling the system. Its 750 GB hard drive dwarfs the storage space of many other nettops.

Performance-wise, reviewers say the Revo RL100-UR20P and its AMD Athlon II Neo K325 processor handles everyday lightweight tasks, such as email and web browsing, like a champ, and it can stream HD video and Blu-ray discs without a stutter to be seen. It can't perform more intensive tasks like gaming or media editing, however. The Revo tops other nettops as far as benchmark testing goes, but still lags behind traditional desktops. If you're looking for a small form factor PC with bigger data-crunching chops, you might want to consider the 2.5 GHz Apple Mac mini (*Est. $800 and up), which comes equipped with a beefier Intel Core i5 CPU and a discrete AMD Radeon graphics card.

The best reviews of the Acer Revo RL100-UR20P comes from traditional PC review sources, such as PCMag.com, ComputerShopper.com and PC World, which all conduct hands-on testing and provide numerical ratings of the system.

1. Computer Shopper

Matt Safford of ComputerShopper.com provides the most in-depth review of the Acer Revo RL100-UR20P we could find, a long report filled with screenshots to illustrate his points. He says the machine is able to quietly play videos without a hitch, but the sluggish CPU causes slow benchmark scores for more intensive tasks, like media conversion. He also calls using the wireless controller a "chore."

2. PCMag.com

PCMag.com's Joel Santo Domingo thoroughly test the Acer Revo RL-100 UR20P and names it an Editors' Choice winner for nettop PCs. "If you want to connect an inexpensive PC to a HDTV, the Acer Revo RL100-UR20p is one of the best choices out there, particularly if you're looking for the easiest way to view IPTV and Blu-ray movies on a big screen," he writes, although he admits that like all nettops, it struggles when creating media or performing similarly intensive tasks.

3. PC World

PC World gives the Acer Revo RL100-UR20P a 4-star rating and places it on its list of the top compact computers. While the review is a bit on the short side, Sarah Jacobsson Purewal appreciates the computer's sleek look, wireless keyboard/trackpad combo and spacious hard drive, but dislikes the low-end CPU. "If you're looking for the perfect compact home-theater PC, this is it. But anyone looking for a number cruncher or a gaming station should probably look elsewhere," she writes in conclusion.
