Canon PC150 Copier - An Update, January 31, 2009

After setup per the instructions, copies were very light. Tried adjustments allowed by copier but no improvement. Removed toner cartridge and shook it side-to-side... that resulted in copies a little darker but still not acceptable. Conclusion: toner cartridge supplied with the PC150 is almost worthless. February 16: Purchased a replacement toner cartridge for $33.94 and the PC 150 makes very good copies. Toner that comes with the PC 150 is trash.

WELL PLEASED, January 7, 2009
The Canon copier is exactly what I expected. I hadn't anticipated getting a free cartridge with the unit, so I ordered one. Good thing too, since the free included cartridge was empty.

Overall, a good little copier. Although, pencil notation does not copy well, even with the darkest setting selected (disappointing). Good for making small batches of copies.
Quality copier, July 23, 2008
Quality product and much easier to operate than the multi function machines. Great for occasional use since always ready to function and without multi colored inks which can be problems.
PC150 review, June 7, 2008

The product functions as designed. One complaint is its darkness: even adjust to its maximum, it is not dark enough to show all contains of the copied material (I had a 14 year-old Cannon PC1 which has a darker image than PC150). May be it is a toner problem, but I cannot verify since it comes with the copier (after I changed the toner ordered from Amazon.com, the copied quality was improved to acceptable level. The toner came with the copier was a trash)

1. Better Buys for Business

Editors here base reviews on thorough testing and review most copiers on the market. But you'll need at least a free, three-day trial subscription online in order to read it. The discontinued Canon PC150 isn't reviewed, but the virtually identical PC170 (*est. $150) is.

2. Amazon.com

About a dozen user reviews combine to give the Canon PC150 a good average score, most giving it four or the maximum five stars. There's no common thread to the few complaints, but one mentions the cost of the replacement cartridge, about $85 for a 2,000-page yield.

3. PC World

About ten owner reviews give the Canon PC170 a high average score, almost all praising the quality but pointing out that 19 pounds isn't all that portable.

4. Epinions.com

There are just a couple owner reviews of the Canon PC160, but they're realistic, saying it's fine for light duty.

5. ConsumerGuide.com

Reviews here seldom detail testing methods, but at least hands-on use is apparent in this coverage. However, the review appears to be blaming the PC160 (almost identical to the PC150) for being what's meant to be - basic, slow, one color at a time, but crisp.
