Diaper Pails
by Denise and Alan Fields
Our AssessmentConsumer advocates Denise and Alan Fields have released the eighth edition of their book, Baby Bargains. The 2009 edition offers an informative discussion of diaper pails, rating six brands of diaper disposal systems using a scale of A through F, as well as listing pros and cons, price, and general performance comments for each model. The authors also discuss choosing between diaper pails that require special refills and those that use regular trash bags, providing an analysis of the lifetime cost of refills versus the downsides of traditional trash bags. Six diaper pails are assigned ratings based on owner feedback.
Best Diaper Pails
by Melissa Gould and Ellie Miller
Our AssessmentProfessional baby planners Melissa Gould and Ellie Miller select the best diaper pails based on their experiences and informal parent feedback through their consulting service, The Baby Planners. Features are listed for each model, as well as a description of what makes each a good choice. The Vipp 15 Kitchen Bin is used by doctors and dentists for its ease of cleaning and ability to lock out odors. The Diaper Genie II and Diaper Dekor Plus both use custom-designed bags to keep odors out and are easy to use, and the Diaper Champ is noted for both its ability to hold either cloth or disposable diapers and the fact that it can be used with regular trash bags.
Diaper Pail Sniff Test
by "Daddy Clay" and "Daddy Brad"
Our AssessmentThis entertaining video review by two dads chooses the best diaper pails based upon one of the most important features of a diaper pail: odor control. These dads test the odor factor of four diaper pails manufactured by Safety 1st, Fisher Price, Cosco and The First Years. Each model is tested for odor control when disposing of a solitary diaper and when changing the bag. The First Years model (a Diaper Champ) exhibits the best odor control, while the Safety 1st diaper pail gives off an odor but not an overwhelming one. The Cosco diaper pail, which is designed like a trash can with no mechanism for separating already discarded diapers from the pail's opening, gets the worst reaction. Not surprisingly, all four diaper pails produce an odor during bag changes.
Babble Best: Diaper Pails
by Nicole Feliciano
Our AssessmentNicole Feliciano reviews five diaper pail brands, selecting the Diaper Dekor Plus as best. Each model is described in detail, and pros and cons are discussed candidly. She notes that diaper pails should contain odor well, be inexpensive to maintain and easily operated. The Diaper Dekor Plus features hands-free operation, a triple seal lid to lock out odors and a large capacity. However, like the Diaper Genie, the Diaper Dekor requires special liners, which can become costly over time.

The Diaper Champ Easily Knocks Out the Diaper Genie
by "Jim10"
Our AssessmentThis anonymous parent reviewer recommends the Diaper Champ over the Diaper Genie based on personal experience with two children using the Diaper Genie and the third using the Diaper Champ. A rather unsophisticated ballot system allows readers to vote for different brands in a short list of favorite diaper pails. A few other brands are recommended as promising, although the author notes he has no personal experience with them.
