In comparative reviews, Pampers Cruisers diapers are top-rated for leakage prevention and fastener quality. These diapers are meant for older and more active babies (16 to about 41 pounds); if your child is younger, you're better off with Pampers Swaddlers (*Est. 22 cents each), which come in three sizes for babies and newborns. Many parents with larger babies are pleased that Pampers Cruisers come in a size 7 to fit toddlers over 40 pounds.

ConsumerReports.org includes Pampers Cruisers diapers in its latest category roundup, and asks parents to try out these diapers over the course of two weeks and report on the results. We also found useful information in "Baby Bargains" (a popular baby-gear book by Denise and Alan Fields), a baby products poll about diapers in a blog on About.com, and parent reviews posted on Amazon.com, Diapers.com and Viewpoints.com.

2. Baby Bargains

This book's recommendations for best diaper brands are a bit vague, but the major brands are discussed. The Fields admit that "writing about disposable diapers is a bit like trying to nail Jell-O to the wall" because of the constant changes and improvements in diaper design.

The overwhelming choice at the time of our last visit was Huggies, which received 45 percent of the more than 4,000 votes that are cast. Pampers placed second with 26 percent of votes, however, only the brand is rated, not specific diapers.
