Reviews recommend digital camera binoculars primarily for capturing pictures and videos that you might otherwise miss. If you're up for carrying regular binoculars plus an ultra-zoom digital camera or an SLR camera with a long lens, you'll get better image quality by far.
A separate ConsumerSearch report covers ultra-zoom digital cameras, which feature 10x or higher magnification. You can get even more magnification with a long lens on a digital SLR camera or a film SLR camera. We also have a report on regular binoculars.
Several websites post sample pictures taken from digital camera binoculars. These are very helpful, giving you an idea of what kind of photo quality to expect, at least when viewed on a monitor.
Photos from The New York Times' review, taken by David Pogue, show you the kind of magnification you'll get from each set of digital camera binoculars.
