Excellent Small Camera, October 20, 2009

I bought the Canon G10 as a back-up to my Nikon DSLR, but the Canon takes such good pictures (while being small and light weight) that I have taken more pictures with it than with my Nikon since I purchased the Canon G10. I think that it is an excellent small camera. So far I haven't experienced any problems due to the high pixel count of the sensor, nor have I had any low light/high ISO noise problems so far. My only complaints are that the menus are a bit tedious and it's hard to find special functions and settings. Also, the camera doesn't focus if you press the 2-stage shutter button too fast. The camera has an awful lot of buttons on it and it's easy to push buttons when you don't intend to, especially if you have large hands or long fingers. You get used to most of these problems fairly quickly though, and/or learn to avoid them.

Canon G10 - Good product, October 12, 2009

I have it for a few months. My previous one was the G3 and I also have a EOS. The G10 is great for a camera in its level. It gives you full control when you want it or full automation. Size is small compared to performance. I was hesitating between this and the thin Sony cameras since I wanted a small camera that is easy to carry when I don't want to carry a big SLR. Eventually I decided to go for this and I'm happy I did. I even took it instead of an SLR for a 3 week vacation I was on just now and pictures are good. It does take a bit of time between one picture to the other but this is the price of using this type of camera and not SLR. Battery life is really great. I kind of forget I need to charge it once in a while. I recommend this product.

Another Canon success, October 12, 2009

I got this for U/W Photography with the Canon housing. The controls are fairly intuitive and the displays that pop up are quite readable, even under water (think stress and other issues). I have also had a Canon SX3, replaced it with and SX1 (both for above water use), and this G10 has all the same moves and positives- plus that thing about every change I make pops-up momentarily on the view screen- pretty idiot proof. For U/W, I didn't need the pan/tilt/swivel view screen, but if I were using this above water, the G11 offers that important feature. Great machine, but again, for above water use, I liked the grip-ability of the SX1 better. Great battery life and powerful flash. I would buy it again.

When we were looking for a new camera, I asked an employee her opinion, as her father was a professional photographer. He recommended the Canon G 10. I bought the camera on Amazon. I got an excellent price an a wonderful, portable camera, We are very happy with the purchase.

"The Canon G10 is an impressive photographic tool for the discriminating enthusiast," reviewer Mike Pasini says. Despite the grainy image noise and its extra heft, Pasini gives the Canon G10 high grades for build quality, manual flexibility and great ergonomics. Overall, it rates as one of the best advanced digital cameras ever tested at the site.

2. Photography BLOG.com

Photo expert Mark Goldstein praises the Canon PowerShot G10, designating it as "the best ever Canon G-Series camera" and a worthy alternative to the highly rated Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX3. Welcome improvements include a better grip and control buttons, intuitive interface and a brighter LCD. Like other experts, the excessive image noise -- particularly at lower ISO settings -- gives him pause.

Like many experts, Don Wan is smitten by the Canon PowerShot G10's upgrades in build, ergonomics and features. "The G10 is a camera you don't want to put down once you have picked it up," he says in regards to its full palette of manual controls. However, the increased megapixel count and consequent image noise disappoints, and he wonders "How good could this camera have been, had Canon taken a more conservative approach to resolution and put as much effort into optimising image quality as it did into making such an impressive camera body?"

4. StevesDigicams.com

The editors at Steves-Digicams.com say the Canon PowerShot G10 is the perfect camera for anyone who "isn't quite ready to jump into the dSLR world" but wants a powerful yet user-friendly compact digital camera. In addition to excellent image quality, the G10 has plenty of manual features for budding to advanced photography enthusiasts. A lack of HD video and an inaccurate optical viewfinder are among the few shortcomings.

5. InfosyncWorld.com

"For the advanced amateur looking for manual versatility, the PowerShot G10 is the golden choice," says reviewer Mike Perlman. The G10's plethora of manual controls offers plenty of room for creativity, although Perlman stops short of a full recommendation because of image quality. Like other experts, he finds the increased megapixel resolution to undermine full photo capabilities, and in the end, he prefers the now on-its-way-out Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX3.

Nearly 200 owners of the Canon PowerShot G10 weigh in on the camera's performance at Amazon. More than 85 percent of owners give the G10 a four- or five-star rating, praising its versatile feature set and excellent image quality. Complaints occasionally surface, among them handling issues -- particularly with control buttons -- and image noise at much above 200 ISO.
